focusIN is proud that we have been able to offer you paying campaigns for
your entire inventory, even when our competitors have been serving
non-paying default banners. We feel it is important that publishers are
able to maximize their revenue; it is good business for you the publisher
and for focusIN. We are committed as an organization to continue fill 100%
of your inventory with paying campaigns!

Given the cyclical nature and current volatility of our industry, we have
made the following minor adjustments to our payment policy effective
January 1 2001:

Primary ad campaigns

When focusIN sells a primary ad campaign, it's business as usual. You will
receive the greater of:
(1) The guaranteed minimums outlined on our web site, or
(2) A fixed percentage of each ad campaign revenues.

Secondary ad campaigns

In the unlikely event that focusIN does not sell the network to capacity
with primary campaigns, secondary campaigns will be sold. With these
campaigns you will earn the majority of the ad revenue, in fact we retain
only a small percentage of the ad revenue to cover our costs. It is in the
best interest of both parties to fill inventory with primary campaigns.

FocusIN Specialty Web Network's excellent benefits remain unchanged:

· top-notch customer service
· up-to-date account statistics, accessible 24 hours a day
· no contractual obligation (you can use our network at your convenience)
· referral income program

We appreciate your membership

It translates to;

FocusIN are complete rubbish and cannot sell adverts, even though it's their job and would rather just lay off half their userbase... then give the exisiting users even less money by putting their own 'secondary' ads up!

Get out fast!

AdCast is even worse than FocusIN. I personally still have no problems with FocusIN, and they kind of HAVE to do this with the secondary ads as net advertising in general is going down the pooper and everyone is affected.

Supermoo has a vented hate for FocusIN (and it's understandable). :p }:8)

Dammit, you people are toooooo smart! ;)

Look I would try and steer clear of FocusIN or be very wary, always have a backup advertiser ready! always!

I strongly reccomend Standard Internet's SearchTraffic, I make more money from them at the bottom of the pages than I did from FocusIN on the top!

I used FocusIN for about 6 months.

The site I used them on wasn't really a heavy traffic site, and the audience it was geared to wasn't a large one in the first place. All I wanted was ads to pay for the domain, and maybe a few Burger King trips. ;)

I was managing about $20-$25 a month with them the first couple months. Then I noticed that amount was slowly decreasing. The fifth month was down to $10. Then halfway through the sixth month, I noticed I only had $2 for that month.

This was with no changes in my hit/visitor counts!

I looked at the ads they were running on my site. It turned out that 55% of the ads they had run that last month were for Targetnet, their parent company. The same pathetic-looking ad was running in over 55% of my ad views. CPC, and not interesting to my site viewers. Or anyone for that matter... It was one of the ugliest and least informative ads I had ever seen. It's hard enough getting people to click ads where they know what the ad goes to. The Targetnet ads said absolutely nothing about what they were.

I complained about the one ad being constantly run on my site, to no avail. So I pulled their banners. I had been saving up until a check would be $250, but changed that to $50 so my check would be sent on the next payout (which it was - no complaint on the payment).

I switched to AmazingMedia and ended up making $40-$50 per month, compared to $25 max a month at FocusIN.

Of course, now AmazingMedia is working on screwing people over. This site's limited audience prevents me from having a large choice of ad companies, so I'll have to see how they're working after this screw-over.

Anyway, that's my FocusIN story, boys and girls. Join me around the campfire next week and I'll tell you the story about the evil monster named "MicroShaft" that lives in these red woods...

lol :)

I had those stupid Targetnet ads aswell! (I'm guessing that's now called their 'second' set of ads)

"Kiddies, The moral of that story was don't trust evil scams like FocusIN! ever!"

He. Your lucky compared to me. This is the email I got:

Fortunately I wasn't using them anymore lately since I also
have an account with Flycast and Burst!Media. Those two
however also perform horrible. I send 15000+ pageviews to
each of them and I only make about $1... Fortunately I'm
making sufficient $$$ with my allclicks account to keep my
site up...

I got one similar to that e-mail, a year or so ago, saying I was underpeforming and could not be matched when my CTR was 30% or above on two ads and overall 5%!

That's really underpeforming?

The focusIN Specialty Web Network regrets to inform you that your website
no longer meets the needs of our advertisers.

I wonder what needs they want! 60% CTR?

Also I never got a cheque sent for the $30 in the account, and they refused to talk to me about how I was completley un-targeted!
