What should I know to run a Dedicated Server?

Sitting at the other end of the World, what tech/sw knowledges should I have to run a dedicated server in US (or other places)?

Know atleast the basics of cPanel/WHM. Know some about SSH, and how to configure/setup a server.
 
To run a server you will need to know a few of the following very general areas:

1) How to secure/maintain/update the distro of your choice.

2) How to recover from a successful breach of security.

3) How to handle the control panel of your choice.

Unless you know what you are doing, it is a big chore. :bandit2:
