I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me a good free online adware/spyware scanner and removal tool that I can use directly from a website instead of downloading and installing one.

I am asking this because my computer has some adware/spyware malware, and a worm on it, and my adware and spyware programs on my computer will not open so I can remove the stuff.

Also does anyone know how to retrieve deleted emails from Outlook Express?

1) http://housecall.trendmicro.com If I remember well it also does spyware besides viruses, try it. As for your adaware, try renaming the .exe to something else. I had a spyware last time that blocked firefox.exe from opening but when I renamed to firefox1.exe it launched.

2) not sure if that's possible.

Deleted emails from outlook (if mean in the deleted files section of outlook), they might be in the recycle bin. Not sure how it works, but I suspect that might happen.

I tried everything I know of what to do except for reformatting, and nothing worked. So I got ticked and uninstalled it, and then re installed it, and magically enough it worked.

Apparently there was a new update for IE7 to protect against malware I suppose, and I didn't realize it. So all is good again.

If it wasnt for that one thing pop ups all the time when you dowload something with FireFox then I would use that, but it doesn't matter really. Thanks for the help.

Meaning when you delete a email entirely from OutLook Express.

I am trying to recover a certain email, but not sure of how to do it is all.

Another is bittdefender.com
If your having probs starting up your scanners their is possibly as service runing that monitors for and kills AV/Adware etc scanners so task manager is a good start to have a look through, also check the host & lmhost files, ofter the AV companies get blocked with 127.0.0.1 ebtrie.

If in OE the mails are not in deleted items - they're gone fo good.

Thank you all for your suggestions and ideas. I will definitely have a look at some.

With the spyware, I uninstalled my internet explorer and re installed it, and that helped some, and then I used some spyware programs from AVG and that helped a lot as well.

I dont trust free antivirus programs....your best bet would be to go to www.kaspersky.com and download a 30 day trial of Internet Security Suite and clean yourself out good while you have the trial then use these other free programs to maintain disinfection :)

Hope this helps

Thanks uho for the links. I will give them a shot.

I do use avg the free version, and I personally have never had a problem with it. The only thing it doesn't give you is support for their company, but it is so user friendly you don't really need it.

It misses alot though George. I scanned with KAV after I uninstalled Grisoft (avg) and man I had all kinds of stuff in there I never knew was there. Go to Google and type Antivirus Program Reviews and if the review isn't biased KAV is at the top almost everytime. They are awesome and I am glad this helped you out. A squared is a really reliable malware/spyware/trojan scanner but not to be substituted for AV they are an up a coming company,I have had lots of luck with them and customer support (on free software) I meant to let you know when you get infected with malware/spyware/adware there are lots of obsolete registry entries left that the AV programs dont clean up this program REGScrub XP will take care of all of that. You will be surprised at the difference it makes :)

You don't get support from the company but they do offer a support forums.

Hope all this served to confuse you now George, personally Norton Corp for my networks, personal machines McAfee.

All the rest have ups and downs.

Yeah everyone has a favorite. If you look at the data though Kaspersky is a step above the rest including Norton and Mcafee :)
