ok guys..I am getting ready to start off by offering free hosting..
What do you guys think a free provider should offer, I will sure
have the following:

cPanel / iPanel
with most features that come with cpanel

What do you guys think I should start
off with on offering free hosting HD/BW?

Comments/Ideas?

Thanks

PS. I prefer quality over quanity, so I am in no
way going to even try to compete with some of you
massive oversellers out there.

Do you want some halp?
If you want help, I could help you!

Also, You should first think of money making ideas and stick to them, dont give these leaches here everything for nothing, your just go bankrupt.
Dont even try start a host without a business plan to some how gather money/income.

I would appreciate help :) plan was never to oversell, and
start off with free hosting until i can figure out some of
these bells and whistles :)

I am not really doing this for the money...ive always wanted
to do this as a hobby..but if something comes out of it,
then great...

Sounds like you need to get involved with a start up hosting company and get your feet wet :)
HostJackpot could always use a few motivated people to join our team and expand their horizons.

From what I've experienced, the free hosting is a waste of time. The users you acquire are there because they want a free ride. You can have thousands of those types of people, and you won't be able to sell them anything, because they are there to get something for free. Keep that in mind. Its hard to sell services to a "free" customer.

i would like to add something on HJ-Andrew's post...

"free" customer usually is harder to satisfy them.
they will ask for more and more.
and they are expecting to get the exact same quality with paid host.
when you able to do so, they will expect u to give them something more than what those paid hosting able to give.
they will then ask for the whole world.

plus, if 80% of the free hosting client u get, will be those who abuse the service.
example like hosting things that are forbidden such as warez, porns, hacking materials etc.
they do not hesitate to host these things coz they are not paying anything at all, so they got nothing to worry about.

this means, the work load you might have, could be much much more than running a paid hosting.

Well they're somewhat right .
If you're here to make profits , don't do free hosting .
I'm here to serve people and probably try to fund the costs through banner or through paid customers[which i haven't quite had much success with , and don't expect any change anytime soon] .
No profit motive , that's why I'm still here doing free hosting...

I like how your trying to paint a bad picture for free hosting in general because you want more clients for your paid host; tell me, have you ever done free hosting?. Because if not, I think you should stop talking.

I have yet to have a free client that continues to "ask for more and more" as you put it. Maybe one or two wanted a feature added. But that is all.

Free clients are not harder to satisfy. If a free host has downtime for say, three hours, you will get some complaints yes. But if a paid host had downtime for say, three hours you would likely lose a client or two easily.

Also, is it so wrong for them to expect the same quality as a paid host?. It's not that hard to provide. I've been told my support response time is better then most paid hosts and I actually have a 99.9% uptime with page loads generally under half a second for the most part (according to google webtools). That's pretty much equal if not over most paid hosts. Of course, the uptime is not guaranteed but that is what a one minute pingdom check is showing me for this month so far.

I think you need to get a reality check in the free hosting market and stop trying to make it seem bad because you want that extra client for your paid hosting.

yes, i did run a free web hosting b4.
and i comment based on my experience.
and i am not trying to making any free hosting looks bad.
i am just letting gotlinks know that wat he should expect.
if just run a free hosting for fun, it is just asking for troubles.
if running a free hosting with a goal, such as earning from the ads to cover the cost, then it is ok. at least when the hoster see there is money coming to cover the cost, he/she will continue the effort.

if u read properly wat i said, i am actually mentioning about the target users.
user who paid will be aware and not abusing the service much as they have to pay and they wouldn't want to waste money.

while users who using free hosting, they will abuse the service as they like and ignore the TOS since they dun even need to pay a single cent.

so basically, i am talking about the time and afford that he need to concern about if he wanted to run a free hosting.

and again, i do not condemn any free hosting service!!!
