Cloud hosting..?

Many companies thought VPS and cloud hosting are same but these websites are not interchangeable, the basic difference both hosting servers are a virtual server is a single physical server where most of the users are located on the same server whereas the cloud hosting use distributed resources through multiple physical servers.

as i realize google drive works pretty much the same as cloud does, right? but there are two types of cloud hosting.. i mean like public cloud and private cloud.. so what is private cloud? i dont really get it.. can anyone explain?

Private cloud is normally based on dedicated hardware, much like a dedicated server (with many virtual machines). Where as in a public cloud, all the cloud resources are shared with other people. Private cloud is great for things like PCI Compliance, HIPAA compliance, etc., where you need your own hardware. Accordingly, a private cloud should also be more expensive.

Cloud hosting is much better as it provides data to the visitor from the nearest server location which decreases the page load time ......

Ummmmmm...no. That's not what cloud hosting does at all. Are you confusing cloud hosting with CloudFlare? Sure sounds like it.

Sure,

Cloud is misused so much in the hosting industry, it's hard to really say these days, but generally speaking, cloud hosting is basically a pool of servers acting as one (perhaps with a single point of storage, i.e. SAN), with self-healing, where if one server in the cloud goes down, the VMs/websites still remain up.

What you're talking about, where pages are served from the closest location, is called a CDN (Content Delivery Network). That's what CloudFlare does. CloudFlare is not cloud hosting. They don't do any hosting at all. And cloud hosting on its own does not serve content from the closest location.

Great explanation WSWD. People are still confused about cloud hosting and it seems so are many hosts as they'll advertise their standard VPS's as being in the cloud, when they are in fact using a server with hard drives and no SAN or software to do cloud hosting.

The cloud solutions market has been changing drastically and adding more services to the category. From my point of view, hybrid cloud is something that attracts me more from other services because of its flexibility.

Cloud computing is a term for the delivery of hosted services over the Internet. Cloud computing enables companies to consume compute resources as a utility rather than having to build and maintain computing infrastructures in-house. Cloud computing services can be private, public or hybrid.
Main benefits of cloud computing includes:

· Self-service provisioning

· Elasticity

· Pay per use

Cloud hosting is based on the most innovative cloud computing technologies that allow unlimited number of machines to act as one system. The cloud technology allows easy integration of extra resources, such as space or RAM and thus enables website growth.

Cloud hosting is also sometimes referred to as server on-demand hosting, cloud server hosting or cluster server hosting, because the hosting is spread between multiple connected servers. This loose network is referred to as the cloud.

Hosting services that are provided to customers via multiple connected servers that comprise a cloud, as opposed to being provided by a single server or virtual server. Numerous benefits with cloud hosting include increased reliability and accessibility, seamless scalability and cost efficiency.

Cloud hosting is much reliable and redundant hosting solution but VPS hosting is more flexible and customizable.

Hi,

Agreed with most of the Cloud Hosting definitions, and yes it is getting really popular and you could probably say the trend, but regular servers also work great and in fact I think are a bit cheaper depending on the host. If you want your site to be up and running most of the time then you should look for a host that has 99.99% guaranteed uptime.
For the amount of visitors expected, a high-end shared should work for you if not you could go with a cheap VPS, both come work with either cPanel or Plesk control panels.

Hello,
Cloud computing allows vendors to deliver software and services over the internet without the need for traditional media or installation.

Cloud hosting is not always capable of what dedicated server is. You don't get full control to your website with cloud hosting, hence go for dedicated servers. You can get it in affordable prices.

In order to prevent cloud hosting shared among the users, dedicated server is a physical server that is only access and operate an entire server by one customer. The customer is able to utilize the full CPU, RAM or Hardware resources of the system. But the cost will be higher.

If you are considering a dedicated hosting environment, who is responsible for managing the servers? Is the plan you are considering one in which the hosting provider will fully manage and service the server or is it one in which you basically rent their server and are responsible for maintaining it and your data?
