As many people have been wondering around here what has happened to the FDC server network, and there was no thread about it, I have decided to start one.
The problem is that FDC has many dedicated servers in their network. They have no policy as to what these servers can be used for when they are sold out, just: "as long as it's legal". Some people used these servers to send out spam and junk. FDC's connection provider (cogent) found out and was quick to pull the plug on their entire network.
They gave FDC about 4 hours warning, not nearly enough time to do hardly anything. This all occured on Thursday afternoon around 2:00 p.m. EST. FDC has been working hard to find a new provider and restore connection to their datacenter ASAP. They have signed a contract with YIPES, a new provider earlier today. FDC is expected to be restored by Monday, (Tuesday at the latest.)
Just a note to users who have a dedicated server with FDC: None of your data will be lost, and all with be safe on your server. The only thing that will change is the IP address of your server. Petr (President of Kingcomp Systems) has offered to change all IP settings for users with W2K Servers.
Here is an email from Petr to his clients from earlier today:
Petr has set up a temporary email account for people who urgently need to get ahold of him. Please use this for extreme cases only. He also wishes for the people with a Win2K server to contact him with your passwords so he can make adjustments acordingly. supportfdc@megapathdsl.net
I will keep everybody posted as updates become available. This situation is also affected myself, and my company.
PS - Do not reply here unless needed. This thread will be used mainly for questions and updates.

Dear client,
as your probably know by now our network is currently down. Cogent has terminated our connection and refused to reinstate the service due to repeated AUP violations of our clients, mostly spam. We are currently working with other providers to get service reinstated as soon as possible. We were quoted 2-4 business days by Yipes and Qwest and we`ll meet their representatives tomorrow to discuss further details and we`ll keep you posted about any updates that we may have.
Along with new provider also our AUP and TOS will be drasticaly changed to prevent this from happening again. FDCservers was very benevolent to its clients in the past but due to recent events this will have to change.
We have every intention to keep the pricing at the same level and still offer unmetered bandwidth to our clients even if we have to switch to a new provider. We`ll do everything possible to get the service back up and running as soon as possible.
We also regret that you were not notified earlier but unfortunately we were given only 4 hour termination notice and we spent about 5 hours negotiating with different people from Cogent`s management to resolve this issue but Cogent decided not to cooperate with us.
On the bright side you can look forward to better network quality with the new connection as the providers we`re currently dealing with have much better peering routes and network overall compared to Cogent. All servers will have to be renumbered and we`ll email you new IP information once we`re up and running again. None of your data will be impacted in anyway.
Should you have any questions, please email us , only please keep in mind that at this point we are receiveing hundreds of emails so the responce time maybe longer than usual.
regards
FDCservers
