The iPowerWeb ad on your site is from Comission Junction -- a company that requires your SSN to pay you.

Back on topic: you will have to go work with an overseas or non-
American company to avoid this. Tax law requries US firms to
collect SSNs.

Honestly though, if an Australian company required me to give them my TFN (Oz' equivilent of SSN) I wouldn't mind as long as I know the company's reputable.
