Domain names newbie questions

I have no domain yet, I would like to get one, a .net or .com

Just want to know, should I look for the cheapest availlable or must I be carefull...?

am I risking anything if the registar goes bankrupt.. what happens then??

I wouldn't go with the cheapest. Your best bet is to choose a well established registrar with a good name. As with hosting, there a lot of flybynight wanna be registrars.
