How much does Webdesign prices vary?

Im new in the business and I would like to know if anyone could recommend a site or maybe post a list here of prices for different kinds of webdesign, since I have no idea so far how much I could fairly charge (im currently interested in Flash and HTML prices, and a price to set a forum like Vbulletin up on a site).

Can anyone help out?

I'm not sure - I've always found the price will vary greatly based on how complex and large you want the site to be. I'd guess anywhere from $50 to several thousand. And I think Vbulletin costs a pretty penny in itself...

Ok... lets say the price for setting it up, excluding the price for the script itself (its a free script) and including custom made graphics and modifications to the script, in other words customization... what would be a fair price towards a client in this scenario (lets say the bulletin board will have 5 forums)?

How much does work with html, flash, etc. normally pay per hour if your qualified for it and work at a company?

Thanks for your help so far.

It's all very dependant on what you do - if it's easy stuff you get less cash - though not always

eg flash more cash if you're having to use actionscripts

money depends on ability - people pay more for v. good graphics than ok graphics.

HTML - more if it's 'dynamic'

Also I could setup a bb in a couple of hours or I could spend a week getting it sweet

you get more for contracting than permanent

BTW,

does anyone here do professional webdesign? It would really interest me, since I'm not all that good myself, but I've seen a lot 'professionals' do far worse than me.

There are some increadibly bad sites written by professional :( and some great ones by kids and oldies who have had no training :)

professional just means you're paid for it, not that it's better.

*shrugs* My sites are no more than decent, but at least I can judge them and wouldn't even *dare* to take money for them.

>.> Expect perhaps the two last designs for my (currently still offline) site "kirei yo". They were pretty good.

Gyrbo, do you have other pages than that in your sig?

Its really hard to give an estimate about a web site if you dont have all the information. The cost depends on the webmasters skills. In Canada I have friends that run there own business and charge various prices per work. Graphical work is $25 and up per hour, plus creative thought process time, about $10 per hour, then there is HTML and programing which can vary from $25 and up. My cousin works for a company that has charges upwards of $100 000 per site. (CompendiumDesign.com). It really depends on how much work is to be done and the quality of work. I hope this helps.

thats a spicy meatball! :D

wow I would be happy If i made $10 per html page think about the average (good) site being at least 30 pages

In Australia, Scape.com (now bankrupt) cost around $3 Million to design! ($1.5M US)

That was a very stylish flash based website, which I got lost in several times... :)

of course you have to remember that a $100 000 to several million dollars for a site is a rare commodity. The sites themselves are very complex beasts, sometimes running across multiple servers, and backs by investors with more money than brains. (scape and boo.com as great examples).

For the average Joe Shmuk like myself, $50 for a quickie graphic here and there to $1000-4000 for a site is pretty average, with some odd little jobs thrown in for a couple-o-hundred. I do a lot of ISP work for hosters as well as my own business and make sites for companies so their budgets are a little healthier than personal sites and what not.

And yeah, freelance does pay better than in-house, but you spend a lot more time hunting work than doing it sometimes. Things are pretty sweet at the moment with regular work coming my way, but there's been some lean times in there believe me.
