[h=5]Can you believe 3 (as in 3 the mobile phone company, Hutchison 3G) is down!

Not the phones, their internal systems!

That size of a company has no failover, redundant systems, disaster recovery, spare string and sticky tape!

Estimate for being able to do anything given by customer services - 24 hours.

Switch off the lights when your leaving the IT department will you.

Brilliant.

They must have had a catastrophic event at their only facility, and hadn't planned for what happens if that facility goes down.

All of the towers would shut down from loss of the central signal to coordinate them.

Not the phones/comms but their internal customer handling systems.

Customer Services, initially with a scare off message to go away and leave them alone, are down. No account info or services.

Contract and pay as you go customers are left in limbo.

Found this out by trying to change my daughters contract number to a new SIM card as hers got damaged and we got her a new PAYG one to replace it and transfer the number.

Told all system are down phone back in 24 hours, when hopefully they will be back up.

Net result, no proper planning or implementation of disaster recovery. (24 hours is a disaster)

Why are they're no failover systems?
