Nameservers...

Okay, I know what the nameserver do and stuff, but I a question for all the smart ppl out there.

You know how you have ns1.yourhost.com and ns2.yourhost.com

Is that like ns1 is the 1st nameserver and if ns1 is down it goes to ns2??

If it does do that, could do something like this:

Nameserver 1: ns1.yourhost.com
Nameserver 2: ns2.yourhost.com
Nameserver 3: ns1.yourbackuphost.com
Nameserver 3: ns2.yourbackuphost.com

ya kind of, allthough the nameservers doesn't have to be your hosts namservers unless u are going to use domainhosting, they should be pointed to, for example, mydomain.com's namservers.

Down or unreachable, yes - exactly the point of multiple nameservers.

So i could add mydomain's server as a back-up nameserver incase my site's down and get mydomain to point to a "sorry we are unavaible" page??

Well, if the issue is the DNS server (your host's) then the backup nameservers could be used to direct the domain to your site. If it is the server that your site is on, then I guess you could use it for that purpose, but generally people get a similar message when a site won't resolve.
