I think that for 1GB of RAM you need to think over about increasing your budget.
You get what you pay for and good VPS solution will cost you good money.

Make sure you read the reviews for each webhost that you're considering. Also, be sure to do a google search to find other reputable hosts.

It doesn't matter. Unless you guys can cough up a 50GB VPS with a gig of RAM for $5, there's no way it would even be worth it after you add the $15 cPanel license. His budget is only $20 and he has not been back to revise his offer or raise his budget. It was unreasonable to start with.

DirectAdmin is cheaper than cPanel.
I think with his budget a reseller account would be more suitable.

Even for a reseller with 50GB of space and an unreasonable 800GB bandwidth, his budget of $20 is still on the low side. Somewhere around $35-$40 would be a good starting point IMO.
