Really basic xtml/css layout

This is my first time making an XTML/CSS site ever; I basically made it by skimming over W3Schools.com for reference. I was just looking to make a simple layout to learn how to make a valid XTML page and a refresher on CSS. I'll be using this for random PHP projects I'm making, so I don't care too much about how it looks, but it's nice to have something pretty to look at while figuring out a php script.

I have a couple variations, but the differences are really small:

http://www.mrmiguel.leveluphost.com/testing/index.html
http://www.mrmiguel.leveluphost.com/testing/index2.html
http://www.mrmiguel.leveluphost.com/testing/index3.html
http://www.mrmiguel.leveluphost.com/testing/index4.html

(I kinda like 3 the best, though my mind isn't made up)

It's a combination of centering one thing of text and moving it from the navigation bar. So, what do you think about it? I know it's not good, but I'm mostly just looking for something functional. Also, is this valid for transitional XTML? I know the CSS is kinda messy right now and there's some things I could just take out, so unless you see some big mistake in it, ignore that.

Last thing: I suck at color schemes, so any suggestions for changing up the colors in it?

looks nice... better than what i make but Index3 dont exist and your text in the nav is REALLY small

Index3 should be back...dunno how it got deleted. How small is the text in the navigation bar on your browser (and what browser is it)? Shows up big enough for me on Firefox and IE7, just slightly bigger than the text in the general content area.

This is what it looks like

Note i am using Opera

K, made it a little bit bigger, though in Firefox now it's noticeably larger than in other browsers. :cry2: Wish I knew how to actually have them at the same size in all the browsers.

Use the IF statements then just add the CSS to make the text at different sizes.
