Selecting distinct year and month in unix_timestamp()

I use UNIX_TIMESTAMP() for my blog and i'd like to archive my posts. But I don't know how to select distinct years and months.
Got any ideas?

one dirty way would be to put UNIX_TIMESTAMP() in a var and strip it, dunno the exact syntax of timestamp, but say its DD-MM-YYYY

strip 3 chars from left, 5 from right, and you got Month

something to that effect
