Downloading an alternate version, gonna try that, this one seems to have some issues with the bootloader, i can see that the contents of the boot folder does not get copied to the hard drive and i cant copy them manually because when booting from the install dvd the content of the hdd is read-only.

Also I have officially moved to chrome, because firefox fails to scroll smoothly on some newer websites with lots of images that are popping up on digg recently.

not that anyone actually cares about any of this........

What distro are you using? iATKOS and Hazzard have worked for me flawlessly for the most part.

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.6.0

I was using iPC 10.5.6 to begin with, I then downloaded iDeneb 10.5.7. If this fails I will do iATKOS. I read up a bit on it and it seems to be the better option. I only downloaded iPC originally because I liked the name :p

EDIT//

ALSO, do you know if it is possible to update to the latest version using a normal OS X retail disk? Or would the disk need to be patched?

It's fine to update using a normal OSX disk, BUT, backup first. It replaces a lot of drivers that break. You'll get loads of kernel panics from the off. I never updated to 10.6.3 using mine, it broke too much stuff, sound, graphics, mouse, wifi. Wasn't worth it, just stuck with 10.6.2 and spoofed the .3 update.

well the only thing i managed to do is boot with -legacy -x flags and even then i cant do anything. Can't even find terminal, the top bar is missing and everything on the dock fails to launch. So, I give up after 3 days and more than 30 installations using 3 different distros. =D
Mac Mini, here I come.

-x is safe mode, that's why you can't use anything. -v -f makes it force booting of kexts and -v shows you what is happening behind the Apple logo boot.

yeah, i always use the verbose flag, if i don't use safe mode and legacy together all i get is a grey screen and a working mouse. i'll give it a go with the -f flag when i go home later today, thanks mate.

Yeah, bugger it, just get a mac. So much easier, and stable ^_^

I love my pac (It's not a Mac anymore, it has some PC RAM in it), just need to get a new battery for it LMAO. Anyone want to give me a free macbook battery? :p

I assume you've taken a peak over at InsanelyMac to view what hardware of yours is supported, and what needs patching? Mine was straight forward pretty much out-the-box because it is close to a retail Mac. I'll still help if I can though.

yeah, ive checked it. the exact motherboard isnt listed there but similar ones from the same family are reported as working. i think the problem however lies within the graphics card (GeForce 9800 GT 1GB DDR3). just gonna try different enablers for video and see if anything changes, but generaly i either get a blue screen on boot or the grey screen with a mouse.
