Wanted::Private Chat Host

eminence

New Member
Well I am getting really pissed with MSN Messenger now so I would like to setup a instant chat thingo on a web server.

The chat software I have chosen is called PHPOpenChat and this requires:

  • Before you install PHPOpenChat you need to install the following things
    * Linux ;-) or an other UNIX! Win32 is not recommended for a high performance chat.
    * MySQL database (http://www.mysql.com/)
    * Apache (http://www.apache.org/) with the PHP3 (version >=3.0.9) or
    PHP4 module (http://www.php.net/)
    - because of an error into php 4.0.3 code in mysql_close function,
    we recommend php version >= 4.0.4 this bug concerns only php4
    (but a workaround for 4.0.3 is implemented yet)

above list is copy and pasted from their install readme document. Basically I would like an Ad free host but if its just a banner or a pop-under then I guess I will survive. It must be atleast 5MB and have a decent amount of bandwidth. Dunno how much bandwidth really because I haven't used this PHP script before and there is no estimation in the readme file.

Basically MSN sucks because we keep getting kicked so now I want to setup a private chat thingy for my friends and I to get together in.

Anway thanks in advance,
Simon

This I know

This I know what I don't know is where to host it! :angry2: :angry2: :angry2:

besides here is a list of the resources this script "sucks" copied and pasted from the install readme document:

System usage:
-------------
* Snapshot of the system usage logfile of http://www.schulhofchat.de/
a PIII 800 MHz:
Chatters online: 117
Load: 1.26
Count of MySQL-Daemons: 15
Count of Apache-Daemons: 134

I don't think thats too much! and thats with 117 chatters I will only have my friends on there which will amount to something like 20 people and probably not all at the same time. So I don't see this particular script and usuage of this script sucking to many resources.

Load: 1.26 Umm thats a huge load to have on a server.... My load is usally around 0.06 and thats handling a good bit of traffic
