What happens if you don't activate your copy of windows XP within the 30 day evaluation? can you use the command line?

I'm not panicking, I just was wondering as I have a copy of Windows XP in a virtual machine and it won't accept any keys so I have made a trial reseter, just wondering if you could use command line interface when the trial has expired.
 
it restricts some stuff, but most of all you get a popup saying you might be a victam of software piracy.

i've never seen anything majorly needed be blocked.
