What's the point of burning simulations?

I just wasted 5 minutes of my time waiting for the burning software to finish burning an iso image, only to find a prompt telling me that "the simulation was successful, would you like to burn the disc now?"

WTF!?

Maybe if you have numbered restricted discs from a supplier or something, you wouldn't want to "just do it" without a hardware test or something first.

It was more common several years back when consumer disc burning technology was still farily new. There were issues with the disc drive spinning too fast or too slow, something to do with the write buffers, and some other things. It was basically a test to make sure the write would be successful before wasting a disc (which was expensive back then) for nothing.
