Who's been around longest?

Never even heard of worldzone before this thread. Besides, I checked it out and it isn't free.

The oldest I can think of at the top of my head are:
Geocities
Tripod
Angelfire
Xoom
FortuneCity

@ Belgiumdude: Bravenet's bravepages (or something like that) is just new.

friend_al_23, I use their paid services. Maybe look at the FAQs.

It is just a basic free account aimed at beginners, so not too many here would use it as they want all the mod cons with it.

Oh okay. I don't why they want my mailing address when I'm only signing up for the free host. Maybe they're going to send me snail mail first before my acccount gets activated.

We added the mailing address feature to make it harder for warez to sign up. Technically all the info you can add could be fake. It doesn't matter since we don't have any use for it anyway. It was just an extra step we added since we were getting all these warez accounts on our servers. We still get warez but it starts to take out their steam when they have to fill out all that information over and over again. This feature basically deters all the abusers who try to sign up for 20+ accounts at once.

:cry2: I tried to sign up with worldzone twice. Once I used my aol addy and the second time my other one. I never got the email with the password and info. I presume they don't want my business.

Same thing happened with Gizba.com so I went with netfirms. Too bad 'cause both worldzone and gizba seemed pretty good.

Edit: Sorry. I already found it.

-- unfortunate....

I have read threads here where all the webhosting masters tried to convince everybody nothing is free in this world. I really don't know...if I gave a quarter to a panhandler I'm not asking for anything back. If I gave a meal to a hungry person the intent is not that I'm going to get paid for it...now or in future. Charity...anybody do it not expecting to get anything in return? --even a tax write-off?

So you have a server or maybe 100.If your financially equal to Bill Gates its gonna kill you to offer a few slots for free? ok..against ethics...how about 1¢ accounts?

Long time free hosts? I can recall

http://www.easyspace.com/

being around.I've had sites there for years..never lost anything nor anybody bugged me about anything.I think they still have a free option.

he-he... http://www.webhostme.com/ has been frozen for years but my site is still up and usable via ftp.

Theres a little place thats been around forever http://www.webpost.net/ Only 1 mb that goes very fast but just for a small site its free.

Crosswinds..like t35 to me...site there..next day its gone...(excuse the knock on t35..but t35,hostultra,hostingextreme,etc. all I seem to recall is signing up 450 times and wheres my site? never get any emails...)

I wish I had faith the few mentioned would remain around..tripod,angelfire,geocities,freeservers-50mgs,fortunecity,prohosting,spaceports,netfirms....I'm sick of disappearing places.

yes...worldzone...

And wonder WHY places like Netfirms are still seeking free accounts? free=pay? or as a pool to draw people into pay plans? fine....if they still keep a free option....

Don't bank on Tripod-Angelfire.Tripod Canada just closed..also Tripod Asia...and Angelfire I think I saw new pop-up ads and ads that would chase 99% of people away.(LYCOS PHOTO just closed)

All pay eliminates those without money but another thing..I'm paying for 5 and more places. If its just hobby-personal I'm going to be doing some deep thinking::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: why am I paying anything? Do I need the internet? (except for a business 'yellow-pages')

Hopefully the day comes when everybody can use their home computer as a webserver...maybe when everybody is connected via cable? Some places never get cable.Out here the phone company is so proud to guarantee 9600 bauds.

hmmmm..wonder how many in Romania,Hungary,Ukraine,Latvia,Turkey are buying premium website hosting plans? ---eeeeks...I think there is/was somebody in here from Turkey.....

easyspace.com and webpost.net do not offer free hosting anymore. :(

t35 has gone better, I think. They're offering unlimited space from old members.

hostingextreme.com got a kitty porn. ;) Other than that, they having nothing in it.

Yeah, but no cable company allows customers to use their connections as webservers because it uses too much bandwidth and drives up their cost of providing the service. Even if you did attempt to run the server behind the company's back, odds are your visitors won't be able to download faster than 17 Kb/sec (might as well host your site on Crosswinds.net free), because cable companies intentionally cap upstream speeds to prevent such abuse and the wasting of bandwidth.

t35?

t35..don't know..It just seems like I've signed up so many times I'm tired. If I sign up again in 7 days site will probably be gone and user..unknown....--and always free UNLIMITED to new users whether its year 2000 or 2003....

WebPost not free? Maybe its one of those deals where you fill out all your personals and get to a page...no more free accounts....

1mb is rough but it was free. eeeks..sign up for multiple accounts.....

Easyspace.I have not gone after an account in maybe 6 months but everything appears the same. You act like your shopping but no charge for 25mb free site.
