feel like spreading some + around

In 2007-2008 rep was the biggest joke going thats why everyone has full green bars now from back then.
Just go back to the old days and spam postive reps.
You guies are taking this forum to srs.

Used to be you got + and - for a reason.

It was for being helpful, trustworthy, reliable, and whatever more.

It was given to web hosts that did do their job, and others that helped, bad rep was apportioned appropriately.

Now it's just a good post or bad post thing.

But - the folks with loads (like myself) shouldn't throw a brick at the window, it does still show with some that they are actually respected on the forum (even if it is just by the transvestite maid that stalks you), getting to a level of 'whatever' doesn't mean much to us now but will at least be a pointer to new people joining.

I didn't get my full rep from then, back in 08 I only got 4 bars...

I get that .... except wonder whether the light green boxes mean something different or special ... maybe not? They're just light green?
After you get 500 rep points they start turning light green
*I believe its 500 don't quote me*

Yea... rep doesn't really matter anymore but it does help should you be running a host or what have you.
Rep isn't completely useless but members who participate in the community gain it better than just offer posters who usually have rep based around the host or their spam

couldnt have said it better myself, and i will have to remember to +rep that when i can actually rep you again. Good stuff Rick

I don't see the sense in the repping. For example you get your few regulars who really post well, and who are deserving of plus reps for all of those good posts, but one can only give a positive rep for one of those posts. It could also be that one gave a positive rep to that post, and the same poster makes an even better post the next day, and you can't give him/her a positive rep for the second post. Must say however for someone new it's nice to receive feedback. But I can imagine for guys like you who have been around the block thousands of times it can't make that much sense any longer. Maybe when a person gets past a certain number of posts or reps or a combo of both, the reps should stop. The person then gets to be named FWS Specialist or something like that.
:)

After a certain number of posts you get to choose your own user title, which is actually a bit more useful and/or fun, lets you have your company title under your user name for example, of just something that makes you chuckle, or with mine at the moment it's to help people stop confusing me and Charles

I think rep is most useful with new users offering hosting, if they've been misbehaving then they will have gone red which is an indicator to other users (most helpful again for the newer ones) that they might not be the best host to choose at he moment.
That should give the new hosts a bit of an incentive not to be a complete plum (doesn't always work that way though), if they've gone red they can recover though by being helpful and contributing a bit more than against the rules hosting offers, and the old hands will usually recognise it and add +rep to get them green again.

If I remember correctly too the higher your rating the more impact repping will have on other users receiving rep, so a new host can have their green rep wiped out in one go if they're up to no good, with further hits taking them further into the red requiring lots of good work to correct it.

So it can still be a good thing in the case of FWS :)

Rep is also helpful for when the new people ask a question. If someone who answers has no rep and someone else has full rep, then they realize that the community trusts / respects that person and that they are probably giving good advice. Only works if the new person takes the time to read the answers through though, don't see alot of that nowadays.
