I'm doing a debate in social studies and I need some info on the religious caste system in India. Can anyone give me some information? I've printed about 3 pages already from online encyclopedias and i still need more info for the debate (it's a big debate).

If it helps...
Debate Resolution: Should India keep its religious caste system?

Whoever is debating for it should consider what they are debating for... this system was previously used as a feudal type of system anyways I can point you to something:

http://www.friesian.com/caste.htm
http://www.geocities.com/lamberdar/_caste.html
http://www.investindia.com/newsite/social/castes.htm

From what I can recall from studying it so long ago, people were born into the seperate castes... perhaps I am wrong...

Thanks, GC

Our town library consists of a few Readers Digests and some old TV Guides. It's only open three days out of the month. They "need more money in donations", they profess. God help the poor fool that gives money to them.

New Sharon, Maine.

My school library is supposably "extensive" since I do go to a private school but when I do searching for something I want I never find it.

I've never actually been to my school library, but the public library here is great. They just finished renovating it not too long ago and finally got high speed net access. More people go there to use the computers and just hang out than for books.

Unless it is a project for Spanish I go to the Public libraries... one is very reputable here... and is in the downtown... only been there once. Too far away.

duh.

And FYI, India got rid of the caste system in the early 1950s, in the consitution. It hasn't ever been followed since the 1950s, so ending it would be hard to accomplish.

Not necessarily... it still is deepily rooted in the society even though it has been deposed of.
