If you won £3bn, what would you buy?

I would wet myself... buy a new pair of pants and then:

A few houses on islands, in mountains
A lot of cars
A lot of real estate and gold
A lot of investments and mutual funds
A lot of donations...
A few really nice computers

Actually I changed my mind, I'd pick an island somewhere in the third world and I'd pour every last cent in untill every child has 3 meals a day, a good education, and somewhere warm to sleep ....

Even with a vast sum of money like that you can't change that much, but I'm confident it would be enough to change thousands and thousands of lives, sure you could buy fast cars and big houses, you could live out your life having lap dances every evening, but really, once your dead and your lap dancers are 40 year old single mums you'll have been forgotten, and so will your fortune ... however if you take that money, still live comfortably, but make an actual difference, you'll never be forgotten, most importantly, you'll never be forgotten to the thousands of people you helped ...

I'm serious, that's what I'd do ....

Krak you have got me thinking. I think I'd do something similar to you. But if it came down to it and I did get the 3bln I probably would not do all that, as I'd be to greedy, however I'd probably give a lot of it to charity...

So you're telling me that with a 3 billion dollar bank balance you'd be able to sit in your million dollar mansion with your 42" cinema screen television and watch adverts about children dieing from whooping cough and diarrhea, knowing you could save those lives with a few thousand dollars for a clean water supply, propz to you man, propz to you ...

I don't think so, people that aren't born into money value it far more than the upper classes of society, and having probably seen those adverts a thousand times before there's no way any decent human being could ignore the fact that their fortune could save so many lifes for such a long time to come .....

I'm not saying I wouldn't live comfortably, I'm not saying I wouldn't have a fast car, or a over sized house somewhere overpriced, but if I didn't actually do something about the world around me; knowing that I can and should, I don't think I could live with the guilt ...

I know man, but it's all well and good talking about it, it's actually having the proper will and courage to do such a thing with huge sums of money such as that. - But I haven't got 3biln, so I don't know what I'd do, but all I'm saying is that I WOULD give huge sums of money to charity to poverty stricken countries. - It's not as if I said I would give nothing man, because I would!

I think that's the point of the thread; to make you think about what you would do with that amount of money, my first answer was "an island", and I saw you said you would give money to charity ... I'm just pointing out that after 24 hours of the theoretic situation being in my subconscious my thoughts pretty soon turned to everyone else instead of myself ... and having thought about it properly I posted what I'd actually do ..... see how you feel in 24 hours, 3 billion GBP is a lot of money .....

Actually, do the math, think of everything you ever wanted, look at the balance you have left and imagine yourself with everything you ever wanted .... what good reason is there to not give the money away ....

Well, if you really want to donate as much as possible and still buy everything you ever wanted, just invest into a 10% return mutual fund / investment. Wait for a year or two, then start using the money. Or if you can't wait that long, buy the things you absolutely DESIRED, and then put it into an investment, wait for a year or two, then start using the money. I think that will work well..

I'd do what Krakjoe did. Although yes, Money talks, There's no point in having so much money anyway.

You earn your own money, you deserve to spend it. I'd be happy to spend my own hard earned money anyway, there's a better feeling to it - or at least better than winning one through a lottery or contest.

i am an invester kind of a person so i will be depositing them in bank..err..i mean various banks..LOL..and then when they will be doubled up i'll be buying all the things my sweetheart wants and for myself i'll be buying a big house and a lamborghini..awwww..nice dream..LOL:angel:
