my realistic needs

Right my previous post stated that i needed asp.net etc, but i wouldn't really use that all that much as i am still learning from a begginers level so dont really need to fork out the extra money for those features.

do you think a reseller package would suit me for these purposes.
a) i do freelance web design and would like to sign clients up under my account as i could manage them better
b) i would like to give hosting to my friends, ie small accounts of say 100mb space 2gb bandwidth.

the main thing i would realistically need

1gb+ space
10-20gb bandwidth
20+ mysql databases
php 5

some sort of management console i've heard of WHM and i picture that as doing the job.

pref payment method via paypal =)

Hello inversechi,

A reseller account does sound like what you need.

We have a wide range of reseller plans. Each of our 4 shared plans can be turned into a reseller plan simply by adding $1/month to the cost. The cheapest of these is $2.99/month (+$1 for resesller) which includes:

1,000 MB space
20,000 MB bandwidth
10 POP3 Email Accounts
15 FTP Accounts
10 MySQL Databases
5 Addon & Parked Domains
PHP5, Perl

All plans except the Economy plan have unlimited features.

In addition to this, we have 4 specialised reseller plans starting at $15/month.

All plans comes with free custom nameservers (ie ns1.yourdomain.com).

You can view all our plans at our site: http://www.visagehosting.com

You mention ASP.Net, how's about the best of both worlds?

We could do a custom plan on a UK Windows server using the DotNetPanel control panel. This would give you PHP5 and ASP.Net 2 available to you along with MySQL 5

Reseller pricing starts at £5+vat per Gb disk space and 10Gb bandwidth.

Hi inversechi,

asp and Linux don't go well together, and for that reason you won't find a host with WHM (Linux only) and ASP (mostly windows only).

Most host here completely ignored your request and just spam you with offers that don't fit your needs. And that tells you A LOT about their technical knowledge. The support you get at such hosts will be ignoring your problems as are their offers ignoring your needs.

Take the only host that understood the issue: monaghan
His price may be a bit higher, but he seems to pay close attention to the customers needs.

[I am in no way connected to monaghan, this is jut my observation from reading this thread.]

Just an update to everyone, i dont currently have time to create a website and for that purpose i am not going to buy hosting as of yet... BUT i will keep you all in midn when choosing a host.. and i have now established my needs as a hobbiest learner of both PHP/ASP.NET!

and to provide hosting for friends too :)

ingfina - as you say he does seem to listen more directly to what i want, but surreals plan seems pretty apt to me also, and for a reasonable price, the think that puts me off DIY Hosting is the actual design of their own site.. it looks very dated, but i might however exchange my services with him :)

Site looks dated :) Well, yes, I'd agree with you on that front, it's on the drawing board, but most of my custom comes word of mouth and we've had a log of consultancy jobs recently, so the web redesign keeps getting pushed down the to-do list. I did subcontract a new design on one occasion but the designer never got back to me with a finished solution, I guess I wasn't happy with moving to a looks like everyone else type of site.

ahhh, that's definatly the way to go word of mouth and such like... but a solid stable design is a way to attact attention of potiential clients.... and i totally agree with you on that front of all these hosting companies, some of which clearly have no idea about design - and clearly ripping off other's designs!

I guess everyone wants to be unique, it's the way to stand out.

monaghan, i was the one who previously emailed you by the way inverse.chi [at] gmail [dot] com :)

Inversechi's previous request was for the same Diskspace/Data Transfer amount, but with ASP .NET and MSSQL.

Now he said you don't need asp.net afterall, so I based this thread's moderation on this point. Everyone is respecting his requirements here.
