Question: Say you have an Intel Core Duo chip at 3ghz, since there are 2 cores does that mean the speed is 6ghz?

From what I've heard, yes. But the cores act independently, so you can't have both cores working on one process.

Pc wise its still called 3ghz, but if it was dual mac processors it would be 6ghz. Thats why mac processors are always less than pc proccessors
