Your Ideas Are Needed

Hey folks.

At ExStreamHost, we are trying to create a successful and active community and also provide a unique free service to our members.
So far we are not very successful in regards to signups etc.

Which do you think is the best way, for us and our users:

Just Link Back
Ads - Established Sites
Post 2 Host

We are also looking for ideas to get our forums active, so if you have any ideas as to what way we can achieve this, we would be grateful.

Thanks,
Dan

We have decided to go with Post 2 Host.
However, some ideas are very welcome.

Just you accept English lang ! this is bad!

i dont think so accepting english language is bad or something, its really good because there are many such users who talk in different langauge and they break tos of the host, which is not good, so english language is highly appreciated.

This is correct. Thanks.
We accept English only at this time because we do not have translators.

yup in my host also only english is allowed, not because we dont have translator, we dont allow any other langauge, because we cannot monitor all hosting sites daily to see if they are breaking tos or not, we do monitorising once in a week.

why monitor sites? I quickly glimps at them to make sure theres no child porn links/pics etc or spamming but unless someone reports something, Why go in to great detail looking? :S
And you would get alot more signups if you allowed differnt lans.. Since most people speaking them are learning english at school now anyway your ads still mean something.

yeah if anybody report abuse, it will be fine, but in case if nobody reports, still i need to look at every sites, if they break tos or not, so i can monitarise once a week only.

If you're looking to grow your forum, I think you made the right choice in switching to post2host. If your main goal, however, is to get more signups, I think you should switch from post2host to 'Just Link Back'.

Thanks but Link-Back = Zero Revenue. Zero Revenue = No Server Funds. :)

Just takes time Dan, your not going to build a 100k database in 2 minutes. Forums are like hosting businesses, it takes time before you your known LOL.

Good luck though, just opened a forum myself!.

Post4Host doesn't bring revenue by itself either, unless you show ads on the forum and get people to display and click them.

I've often found post-4-host/features environments feel pretty contrived, even if you forbid one-liners and pointless posts there'll be a part of the crowd that'll be there just to do their minimum "effort" and it feels.

I've been on 110mb.com for a while, they're going the partly "post4features or paid upgrades" way and gosh how crappy the forums have tended to become those last weeks :/ Droves of people asking questions or speculating about stuff that's pointedly answered in the OP or next few posts, necromancy of threads no-one gives a dead horse's --- about any longer, copy-pastes of content from somewhere else out of the blue... yeargh...

Your right Craig. Takes time and that's something I have loads of :)

Tatzel, if the service is run correctly it can be very successful.

Place a social networking mod on your board so that your members can digg them etc etc.

workin well for us!

post 2 host has always seemed to be the best way of encouraging an active community :) good luck

Just got to make sure you get the right type of hostee's :p Not the kind that spam up your board with: "Lol", "me too", "thx", "np", etc. :D

EDIT: To the reply of revenue, a free host is not expected to be able to pay the server fees on what they earn from the site, it does just not work. If you are opening a free host, you should expect to be funding from your own pocket for at least 12 months.

Thanks mate.
Some of the regular members seem to be more interested in the Post 4 Host way than the others.
Just gotta get some quality forums up.

I completely agree.
Regarding the Spam, we have that covered in the rules. They break the rules, they lose posts.

Posts?

Forums in my section are dead for the most part. I have been looking at the sites hosted and we have decided to choose 1 that catches our eyes and we put them on the top of the forums and on the main page of the hosting company site. We are trying to get people to post more but most are just taking the space and running.
Maybe a post or 2 a week may work to get space?

Links back can create revenue, in some cases more so than your members ( most of which are too young to hold a credit card, no doubt ) maybe clicking on an advert or two....

If you have an interest in post2host then go 4 that, only make members aware that if they manage to drive traffic to their sites they can swap their posting duties for a link back or banner or button somewhere, either to your site or to sites than you sell advertising too, you'll find a lot of bloggers don't mind having links or buttons on their blog, it creates links back for them too and like I said if you get enough decent sites and they all have decent pr the links will weigh heavy with google, slowly pushing your own pr upwards ...... also before that, if you manage to make a busy enough forum you could sell adspace on that depending on your audience ..... keep your personal site and or reseller site on a different ip ( or different c class if you can ) to make the most out of links to your own websites ....
