Hi , i am a chinese, i was quite surprised when i was stuying in New Zealand and learnt that there are many people like to buy second hand (used) clothes from second-hand shop. I would like to know that do you buy second hand clothes ? Because most of chinese don't buy second clothes and believe old clothes won't bring luck. what do you think ?

I buy all of my jeans second-hand, and a lot of my t-shirts. Why spend more money? Also, work uniform shirts are great, and you can't buy them at stores. If you go at the right time and pick out the right stuff (not sure if going in with my Grandmother and her senior discount had anything to do with it), you can get t-shirts for less than a buck at Goodwill. How can you pass that up?

I don't really think luck is based upon the clothes you wear... That seems pretty silly to me. But then again I also hang a pickle on the Christmas Tree and eat loads of sauerkraut on New Year's and Oktoberfest so what do I know...

I used to do voluntary work for the Salvation Army's Thrift Shop a few years back and as I had time to have a good look around during the shift, I found some very good bargains :) Not just clothes but other knick knacks including full (still boxed) dinner sets (prolly a tossed gift) ;) By supporting these charity op shops, you bring luck to the more needy who rely on contributions arising from other people's junk ;)

Nope, never bought used clothes, I can spend the extra buck for the new stuff, wouldn't have it any other way.

Buying second hand cloths is a real risk for one's health as for all you would know the previous owner could have had skin diseases.

If it was really that much of a risk, the places wouldn't be open.
Socialism: Government closes them down.
Capitalism: People realize that skin disease isn't worth it and stop shopping there.

Besides, if I had a skin disease that was contagious I certainly wouldn't be selling my used clothes, let alone allowing anybody to touch me.

Second hand clothing is awesome. I bought this awesome jacket the other day, for only 4 bucks. It would have cost me over $100 brand new.

I bought a new tie for work - 50 cents, when a tie of similar quality brand new is $20.

Sure, maybe I could afford to buy brand new, but what is the point in spending that extra money? It just means I have extra money to spend on actually enjoying life.

GoodWill is actually pretty nice. I purchased a few things of clothing and I still wear them. It really helps with todays harsh economy.

HookerS? Where?!

Nah, I buy all my clothes new, just a weird mental thing. Don't like public restrooms either, kind of a clean freak when it comes to that.

Well you're not meant to eat off of it or anything, just aim well

yeah, i just have a kind of mental issue with public restrooms. i can use them for "certain bathroom procedures" that involve standing, but cannot sit in a public restroom. Just can't do it, ive probably done it like, 10 times in my entire life.

Goodwill is the best thing *ever* , they have some pretty snazzy stuff. I just feel like a ---- when walking in there, like I'm stealing stuff from the poor :( meh
