How do you come up with a Hosting Company Name?

TehGuy

I've been thinking about doing a small reseller business for a while now, but I still don't have a single idea for a name. I was just wondering if anyone here has a web hosting service, how did you come up with your name and where did it come from?

I've been trying to think of a name, but I just can't find a decent one. By the way...if you plan on suggesting one, I want one that's a bit more "laid back", but at the same time, not cheesy, nothing that just sounds...stupid.

Thanks in advance.

hehe, laid back huh?
tehhost isn't to bad.

For us, we went for the name that was

1. available
2. catchy
3. easy to remember
4. easy to market.

I asked a couple of friends for a name, selected the ones i liked and drew NecronHosting out of a hat ;)

NecronHosting? hmm reminds me of Neo-Nazi. Neo-Con

usethishost? yea real original.

A name is more then a name, it's a symbol.

"Necron" makes me think necrofelia.

you make up a hosting name by thinking of something resembling what you want to be, then add 'host' after it. actually, you can add any arbitrary word, symbol, letter, or number, and add 'host' after it, and there you go--a host name.

here's an easy way: get a dictionary. open to a random page, and set it on fire. now, the burnt paper... the first word you see that's recognizable in that heap of ash, choose that word!! add 'host' after and there, you're done.

the real problem, i think, is deciding whether to add a space between your arbitrary word and 'host', and whether to add any other arbitrary numbers after the word.

Those domain appraisals mean nothing.

My previous domain (a 3 letter .org) "appraised" for $3000, which is completely bogus.

Learn how to read. I never said that these were 100% correct or that they meant anything.

As for your domain, 3-letter domains are worth a lot, especially dot coms

Uhh, I am more than capable of reading.

Did I ever once say you were 100% certain of the value? NO.

I was merely pointing out the fact that appraisals are bogus alot of the time.

Had nothing to do with what you said.

So whats the point of restating what i just said. I said in the beggining that this appraisial was must likely fake and wrong. No need for you to repost the exact same thing.

Uhh, I was pointing out that is was bogus, when compared to my own domain name, which trust me, isn't worth $3k, even though it is 3 letters.

I wasn't repeating what you said in the same context.

It's story time, kids:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Host Name Thread Story - Based upon actual events
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once upon a time there was a thread made where some guy wanted to know about how you create a good memorable host name. Some people starting giving some really good ideas and suggestions. But things took a turn for the the worst and people started arguing and it made TehGuy cry because it was scary.

And then everyone realized this thread wasn't supposed to be a flaming war about appraisals for domain names, but a thing where some guy needs help on creating a name for a web host. And they lived happily ever after.

The End. (Not of the thread...they lived happily every after because they kept talking peacably about the thread, and they talked for a long long time after they resolved their arguement. True story.)

TehHost is pretty good. Nice, short, and people know it's a host. As for the thing vizhost said:

"hehe, laid back huh?"

Yup...laid back...Lots of hosts take professionalism to the extreme, and seeing as how I'm only going to be hosting about 10-15 people (not going to be a huge company by any means), so I could probably actually get to know each person I'm hosting pretty well. It'll be more like they are 'associates' of a sort and I'll have a forum for us to all help each other out and everything.

Considering the prices I'm planning for what they get, I really won't be making any money. (Whoo. 2 dollars a month.) Plus, I'll have some people who could possibly help me out with some PHP scripting if I run into a snag. :)

Keep the suggestions and ideas on making a name coming...I like it. lol
